“Storytelling” is the buzzword, a product is barelyanything without story line. What we are witnessing, today, is the change in the consumer behavior, the power of knowledge and awareness. In order to survive, designers need to connect the customers and need to engage themselves on a much deeper level than before. For centuries now, humans have relied on storytelling through art, sculpture to share emotions. The famous miniature style paintings used to illustrate triumphs, wars and the Mughals love for nature is closely linked with flora paintings. When designers use the art to express each element through their designs, they become the story tellers and thus the end product comes alive.

Storytelling is the connective tissue that ties your product together. When the consumers are presented with a good story, they will remember not just the details of it but they will also feel emotionally connected with the product and with the brand. To come up with a story, designers need to connect themselves with their inner-self which allows their thoughts to flow freely that is important to achieve in order to create impactful designs. The intrinsically crafted pieces are weaved out of tales of romance, creativity, history and heritage. ‘Tell a story’ convey your imagination that will stand apart from others and be authentic with your story.

The most classic structure of a story contains 4 parts-

1. Research and Data Collection – Identifying the compelling story line and find out the rising action to weave it into Concept and pictures for maximum impact.

2. Consumer Behavior – Identifying & positioning the target market based on demographics, locations and incomes.

3. Market trends – Forecasting the trends based on consumption and prevailing trends. Even the small detailing can bring a lot more difference in the piece to brings its own uniqueness.

4. Technology & Innovation- identifying design directions, understanding the colors, aesthetic codes, materials and further design direction.

We encounter storytelling in everyday aspects of our lives, it only takes a deep understanding on how to incorporate all the elements together effectively in the way to communicate with your audience.
