TOP STORIES

Lamhoithem Chongloi

While at college I loved spending time with my friends discussing fashion designers, as it plays a
major role in the world. Gradually I was inspired by the top designer Karl Lagerfeld, who is a
German fashion designer and a creative director of the French fashion house Chanel. His talent
and vision play a big role in how he presents himself. Back at home, I try to use stuff that is
wasted anyway, collect them to design something on my own but it’s really a laborious process
and takes a lot of knowledge about chemistry so initially, I struggled as it’s a lot of trial and error.
As time passed by, it was just the only thing that woke me up in the morning. I understand that it
is very important to know about the detail in fashion and design. So, I came to Delhi and enrolled
in JD institute to pursue my dream. Despite all the challenges that I faced personally and
financially, with the support and care I received from JD institute I have been able to continue
doing what makes me happy – fashion designing. I have always enjoyed DIY projects. Likewise, I
must force myself to take a break or have a day off, otherwise, I just would never stop even on
weekends or in my leisure time.

My passion for fashion designing continued to hone me each day. I experiment a lot with designs
and like how the final outcome gives me the desired aesthetic appeal. Clothing and design areas
are a form of self-expression, so I wanted to make sure that I’m happy with the thing that I do.
There are times I find problems in the garment industry, both socially and ethically and you get to
understand what the process is like. However, that never becomes a demotivating aspect when it
comes to pursuing my passion.
