HOW TO KNOW WHAT STYLE SUITS YOU?

It’s no secret that fashion designers create trends and the rest of the population just follows trends. It is one of the reasons some kids are choosing to be designers because they wish to share their ideas with the world. If this is the reason why you’re here, you’ve come to the right place. We, at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, offer a wide variety of fashion designing courses and you can pick one as per the time that you have at hand.

WHAT DO FASHION DESIGNERS DO?

Fashion designers display their creations on a yearly or sometimes a seasonal basis. There is a full-fledged public relations machinery that works behind a fashion label. Today, if a fashion designer wants his creation to reach places, he has to advertise it, just talent is not enough.

Fashion designers have a niche that makes them popular, very few designers are known for everything. There are some who design men’s footwear, then are some who design only lingerie, to some who design only kids’ wear.

Fashion designers are now willing to try different technologies like body scanning which allows them to create custom-fit garments at a mass level, with just the push of a button. They are delving into high-tech textiles that are known to provide sun protection. Designers of today are pushing the envelope with every season. Designing as a process takes months to complete. The first step is to trace or track a trend and research it. Some designers do the research on their own while some rely on fashion reports for knowing the fashion predictions of the season.

CAD (computer-aided design) is one tool that has replaced sketching by hand, although there are designers who still choose to stay old-school. CAD minimizes the time spent on fittings and alteration of costumes because the fitting of clothes is done on a virtual model.

The next step is creating this design with the help of rough cloth, usually muslin, and putting it on a mannequin-like structure so that the designer knows how the garment will hang or fall on the model.

A fashion designer is the one who chooses the models, who will wear what, and the retail price of each piece of clothing. A designer might have assistants but he has full control of every detail. The average salary of a fashion designer, in the beginning, is 3.73 lakh, per annum.

That was all about fashion designing. But not everyone wants to be a designer, some people are content with just expressing themselves through fashion. These people are equally creative although not enterprising. Some wish to be more experimental with clothes but don’t where to begin because they don’t know their style. Here are some tips if you’re struggling to know your style.

TIPS TO DEFINE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

1. Find your fashion icon

Go to Pinterest and search style icons, and save the pictures that speak to you the most. If you notice the saved ones, you’ll notice a pattern between them, it might be only one celebrity or 2-3 celebrities, which means you resonate with their sense of style.

2. Labelling

Now, again take a look at the saved pictures, don’t look at the celebrity, keep your focus on the attire. What does it look like to you, bohemian? trendy?  Or chic? Jot down the words that describe it the best, it’ll help you in the future.

3. Take a selfie

There are days when our most stylish selves, capture what you’re wearing that day. It epitomizes your fashion sense and it’ll help you when don’t know what to wear.

4. Choose something that makes a statement

When we see Rekha, we always see her in a stunning Kanjeevaram saree, no matter the occasion, then there’s Vidya Balan who is known for her sarees. Figure out what you love wearing the most, it can be anything from a neckpiece to a type of earrings. All fashionable people have an item that is a staple. There are some women who feel confident only wearing a bold lip and some always wear a nude lip, figure out your pattern.

5. Pick the odd one out

If you look into your wardrobe closely, you will find a piece of clothing or accessory that is completely different or stands out because it might not be falling in your comfort zone. You want to experiment, and buy pieces like the odd item because that look might be something that you secretly want to try.

6. Know yourself

When it comes to fashion, always trust your instinct. You should not follow trends blindly. If a fit is not what you feel most comfortable with or you feel you’re always adjusting your clothes, then don’t wear them. It means you are not meant to follow the trends blindly, don’t fight what your heart says.

We always encourage our students to never follow a trend completely, question it, and give their unique touch. Herd mentality is not good for progress in any field. To develop your personal actually, you do not have to do anything, you just have to observe where your gaze is taking you. Where your eyes will take you, will surprise you that all the while, the answer was in front of you, the whole time. So don’t stress too much, fashion is supposed to be fun.
