Writing Skills are Essential for Building a Good Resume

Writing improves our comprehension and critical thinking abilities. It helps us to convey who we are as individuals. Our thinking and learning become tangible and lasting when we write them down.

  • Used MS Word’s commenting and monitoring functionality to work on company reports with 20 team members.
  • To save 2+ hours per week, I used Outlook’s email files, tasks, and rules. The method was adopted by five colleagues in order to save time in their schedules.
  • College Writing Skills: narration, persuasion, essay writing, thesis writing, and academic writing skills

For Example-

Skills in essay writing and creative writing are sought by colleges.

Your resume should reflect:

  • My essay, “Grasshoppers, Ants, and the Kennebec River,” won the high school essay writing contest.
  • Four initial science fiction stories were published and distributed to national markets.
  • Technical Writing Skills: feedback gathering, preparing documents, collaboration, research, analysis, and planning

For Example-

The job description reads, “technical writing, product awareness.”

Your resume should reflect:

  • Produced 50+ executive-level briefings per year using professional writing skills. Management commended me 5 times for brevity and precision.
  • Documentation was created for 153 software solutions. Engineers saved 5 hours a week by using in-depth product expertise.

While the soft skills which should be reflected in your resume are persistence, empathy, work ethic, interpersonal skills, creativity, patience, etc

  • Grant Writing Skills- attention to detail, storytelling, creativity, subject knowledge, organization, and persuasion

Your resume should reflect:

  • I wrote 17 grants, with a performance rate of 70%. A total of $145,000 was raised for the group.
  • To demonstrate the organization’s need, I used storytelling skills. 95 percent of the officials who accepted our grants said our story moved them.
  • Email Writing Skills- sales email, business email, consistency, brevity, and mail merges

For Example- 

Mail merges and company addresses, according to the job description.

Your  resume should reflect:

  • Using MS Outlook and MS Access, I created monthly newsletter mail merges that reached 30,000 customers every month.
  • Every day, I answered and wrote 30+ business emails to clients. 35 new customer relationships were established using sales email skills.

How to Improve Your Writing Skills?

  • Refresh the writing basics, such as spelling and grammar.
  • Write and read regularly. Writing with expertise requires time and effort.
  • Find someone who can provide you with input on your writing.
  • Reread and imitate the writing you love.
  • Until you start writing, make a plan.
  • When you’re done, revise your work, even if you’re tired of it.
  • Write the first draft as quickly as possible. Then go back and make the required adjustments.
  • Delete something from your writing that isn’t absolutely necessary.
  • Do your homework. The most popular cause of stumbling is a lack of ideas about what to say or write.
