What is Traditional And Modern Vaastu Shastra?

What is Traditional And Modern Vaastu Shastra?

Vastu shastra could be defined as the placement of different parts of the houses to mitigate the planetary forces and their impact on our lives. According to the Vastu, the homes are designed and are considered to be the Indian system of architecture development in India.

In ancient times, it was considered that Vastu influences our lives, and hence the construction of the house should take place according to the Vastu shastra. This was done to ensure health, wealth, and so on.

Types of Vastu shastra

There are two types of Vastu Shastra, namely.

  1. Traditional Vastu shastra
  2. Modern Vastu shastra

We will discuss both the types in brief for a better understanding.

Traditional Vastu shastra

The traditional Vastu shastra is quite different and redundant. It mainly focussed on the growth and enrichment of the kings. Their houses and courts were designed in a way to attract wealth, health, prosperity, and happiness. Whereas, on the other hand, the king’s subjects were not provided with the opportunity to build their houses in accordance with the Vastu shastra.

Hence, the king’s subject could never prosper and remained at the same level. Here are a few architectural designs as opposed to the ones provided to the subjects of the king.

King

The following is the system of traditional Vastu Shastra for the king. These are as follows.

  1. Accounts’ room: north-west
  2. Bedroom: south-east

King’s Subjects

The following is the system of the traditional Vastu Shastra for the subjects of the king. These are as follows.

  1. Kitchen: south-east
  2. Master bedroom: south-west
  3. Entry into the house: north-east
  4. Storage for grain: north-west

Due to this difference in systems, the king’s subjects suffered a lot of losses and expenses. In a nutshell, it could be said that the rich became richer and the poor continued to live in a deplorable state. This, however, has no relevance in the modern Vastu shastra. With time and changing social norms and the systems, the Vastu Shastra has evolved.

It has become inclusive and diverse and is accepted and adopted by everyone for its architecture system.

Modern Vastu shastra

Unlike the traditional Vastu shastra, the modern Vastu shastra does not discriminate among the people according to their stature in society. Done were the days when one person used to rule over the other people. Now everyone shares the same footing, and hence, the modern Vastu shastra follows this system to impart health, wealth, and prosperity.

The modern Vastu shastra system is as follows.

  1. It includes the design.
  2. The layout of the building.
  3. Space arrangement.
  4. Placement of things.
  5. Geometry.

This was just an overview of certain elements of the modern Vastu shastra.
