On 16th April, JD Institute of Fashion Technology organized a webinar on “Textile Design- The Emerging Field In Fashion and Interior”. Students from all the campuses were invited to attend the insightful webinar as the speaker talked about the growing importance of textile design in both the fashion and interior design industries. The speaker, Ms. Kalpana Singh is a notable figure in the textile industry and her insights helped the Jediiians learn a great deal about this emerging field. Making this event a sheer success was the discussion around the future of the textile industry with a focus on smart textiles. 

Ms. Kalpana Singh started the session with a basic yet often overlooked question that is “the difference between textile and fabric”. The session started off with a brief introduction to textiles. She talked about the various types of textile wherein she introduced the students to the very industry. The discussion then focused on the different types of textiles in India. Keeping in mind our rich heritage, the speaker talked about the array of textiles we have. This session was able to help the students understand the scope of this industry. As this webinar was focused on the market trends and the future implications, our students learned the importance of textile design for the coming years. Ms. Singh’s presentation was equally focused on the history and the future of textile. As she spoke about the heritage weaves, she also discussed the emerging trends of sustainability and tech intervention in the domain of textiles. Her discussion on smart textiles and sustainable textiles became the highlight of the session as the students could see the future in this domain. This discussion around the future of the textile industry was supported by strong data that Ms. Singh has collected during her thorough research on the subject. As the session came to its conclusion, the students grew more and more interested in the domain as the session then talked about the various career opportunities in the field of textile design.
