“The principles of true art is not to portray, but to evoke”

Students of Interior Design Department of JD Institute of Fashion Technology explored the depth and richness of creative and cultural industries in India through an outreach event organized by The Asian Heritage Foundation.

The foundation is currently implementing a livelihood program titled Jiyo- ‘Creating Inclusive Business Models for the Marginalized Skilled communities in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar’, with the support from Japan Social Development Fund and the World Bank. It organized a Public Stocktaking of the ‘Jiyo’ Project in New Delhi to showcase a decade of innovation in rural India. Students were exposed to a wide range of craft designs and textile products. They learnt about the traditional crafts through storytelling sessions, hands-on workshops, cultural talks, performing arts & crafts of India by the masters of the crafts. There were beautiful displays and demonstrations of Sikki art, Dhokra craft, Papier Mache, Sabai weaving, Bagh printing. Madubani painting and many more craft forms.

Students participated wholeheartedly in the hands-on crafts workshops. The experience and exploration of the crafts develop an interest in entrepreneurial activities. JD Institute takes students to visit these events to enhance the mental faculties of the young learners and to further the developments of regional crafts of India.  It was a visit to experience; review and even course correct a pioneering program on Skilled Entrepreneurship for Rural India.
