JD Institute of Fashion Technology got into the festive mode of Diwali in a unique way. ID Department of Hauz Khas Village, Delhi, introduced new Diploma students to the world of design with an innovative activity.
Students used the ancient art of paper folding and locking to create some really interesting Diwali lanterns. The four day workshop was designed in such a way that the students could learn to create artistic products out of a basic raw material, such as paper. It was a challenging task for them to manipulate, assemble and give shape to a delicate material like paper and produce aesthetically pleasing lanterns.
It was a hands-on workshop that gave full freedom to the learners to explore and develop. During the process, many aspects of design process were discussed like conceptualizing, executing and ornamenting. Students were quick to pick-up ideas and came up with brilliant versions of lanterns using simple techniques.
JD Institute promotes such creative workshops so that students learn the design process practically. It is also an exercise in learning important life skills like decision making, perseverance- creativity, collaboration, precision, focus, team work and problem solving. It is our endeavor to enhance the designing sensibilities of the students right from the beginning of their design journey.
