JD Institute of Fashion Technology, a pioneer in the field of design education for the past 30 years, has exhibited a collection curated by its students at Roseate House, Aerocity on 20th September 2019. The event embraced the collection of Rina Dhaka along with House of Jediiians and featured 19 students from the institution.
The event showcased costumes designed by 19 students, under the banner “House of Jediians.” It aimed to explore designs by incorporating intriguing ideas ranging from unconventional mythology to pressing contemporary issues combined with materiality within the bounds of conventional design presentation. It was a refreshingly new take on creative expressions by fusing traditional designing techniques with challenging interpretations by a handpicked selection of students.
While one collection was inspired by the delicate, asymmetrical balance of empty spaces conceived from Ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangements, another found beauty in destruction and yet another embraces greener materials by switching leather for cork. Abstract interpretations in the form of utilizing ambiguous themes such as enlightenment, being-ness or the ancient theory of Panchatatva are predominant throughout the entire line of creations. Experimentation is noticeable in terms of diverse, unconventional choice of materials with supplementing innovating techniques.
Rupal Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology- Corporate Center, Hauz Khas, said, “With 30 years of legacy in the education industry, at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, we aim at not only honouring trendsetters and icons within the fashion and design industry but also upcoming fashion designers. We feel truly proud of the vibrant & unique interpretations to be showcased by our students. We thrive to upskill their talent and working towards the idea of ‘Shaping the Future of Fashion’.
