Importance of Vastu Shastra

Vastu refers to an ancient Indian science that enhances positivity and eliminates negative energies around a person or place. How can you do Vastu for a home?

Vastu shastra tips for different parts of the home are as follows:

  • Bedroom
  1. The master bedroom should always be bigger than other rooms
  2. The master bedroom should be in the south-west corner of the home and should be occupied by the head of the family
  3. Bed in the master bedroom should be placed against the west or south wall
  4. North or east walls should reflect the windows
  5. The dressing table should also be placed against the north or east wall irrespective of whether a mirror is there or not
  • Kitchen
  1. The kitchen should not be just above or under the prayer room
  2. The platform of the kitchen should be present in the east or south-east corner
  3. For kitchen wall and flooring, black color should be avoided
  4. Never face west while cooking food as it is associated with health problems to the cook
  5. The north-east side should be taken to place sink in the kitchen
  • Dining Room
  1. Westside should be considered for the dining area
  2. No member of the family should face south while eating as it causes small disputes between family members
  3. The main door of the house and door of the dining room should not be facing each other
  4. The dining  table should not be folded against any wall
  5. Avoid circular dining table and choose a rectangular or square shape
  • Pooja Room
  1. The north-east corner should be preferred for the pooja room
  2. The entrance of the pooja room must reflect a threshold 
  3. Storeroom should never be converted into a pooja room
  4. Broken idols should never be kept
  5. Photos of animals and birds should never be placed in the pooja room
  • Living Room
  1. The living room should be constructed on the east or north side
  2. For researchers and scholars, the west entrance is the best
  3. The telephone should not be kept in the southwest or north-west direction
  4. For wall colours of living area avoid black or red
  5. The aquarium should never be kept in the south direction as it is associated with drawing positive energy out of the house
  • Toilets
  1. Light colors should be preferred for the walls of the toilet
  2. East or north wall should be considered for its entrance
  3. Toilets should be constructed around one to two feet higher than the ground level
  4. Taps should not be constructed in southwest or southeast direction
  5. A small window should be provided on the west, east, or north wall
  • Study Room
  1. For the study room, the west, east or northeast direction should be considered
  2. Students should face east or north direction while studying
  3. Avoid toilets around the study room
  4. East or north wall should be considered for bookshelf
  5. The computer should be kept in the southeast direction in the study room
