How to Style Up with Summer Dresses

When the weather’s hot and you don’t have much time to prepare your wardrobe, who doesn’t enjoy the simplicity of a summer dress? About the fact that many of us are remaining local this summer, I believe dresses are having their moment in the heat! But why should that discourage us from sporting a fabulous summer gown we’d normally save for a beach vacation or an island getaway? Dresses are a simple thing to style and can be very flattering if you know what looks good on you. There are so many amazing options in-store and online, and now that we can go to a physical store, it’s even more of a reason to buy!

  • The Shirt Dress

One of the best models because of its flexibility as well as its traditional tailoring. The shirt dress is a wardrobe staple that can be styled in a variety of ways, from work to weekend, summer to winter, with only a few changes in accessories.

Because of its elastic waist, the shirt dress flatters a variety of body types. You can wear it with or without the belt, and when you do, you can change it to fit your natural waist. Choose a length that flatters your figure. If you’re petite, a midi style is possible; just choose your shoes carefully.

  • The T-shirt Dress

This is a perfect summer casual simple dress to have in your closet for those lazy days. You’re good to go with a sandal or sneaker (or thongs! ), a sun hat, and a casual crossbody bag. Simply throw on your favourite denim jacket and swap out your sandals for sneakers as the weather cools. If you want to cover your upper arms, go for a t-shirt or a tank if you want to expose a little more skin.

  • The Linen Shift

This is a perfect option for those who choose to bear their weight in the tummy and torso but want to show off their legs. A shift dress’s form skims the chest without a seam across the waist, allowing the eye’s line to continue up and down the body (i.e. does not highlight the widest point)

  • The A-Line

An A-line shaped dress is another perfect look for those who choose to cover their midriffs and hide many sins (or indulgences). This is a fun style that is both feminine and comfortable. Look for styles with an open neckline or a button-down option if you have a large bust.

  • The Mini Dress

While the midi and maxi lengths are certainly on-trend for summer 20/21, the mini dress is here to stay. Some of you might be intimidated by a long dress, and why hide your best asset if it’s your legs?

  • The Sundress

The sundress is a classic summer style that genuinely embodies summer dressing. It’s ideal for women who are narrower on top and broader on the bottom (i.e. pear-shaped), as it draws attention to the waist and upper body while balancing the lower body.

  • The Shredded/Puff Sleeve Smock

Anything with a puff sleeve or a shirred bodice (better yet, both!) is quite 2021, and anything with a puff sleeve or a shirred bodice (better yet, both!) is probably the ‘IT’ dress of the season. They have a feminine feel while providing upper arm coverage, and the empire line cut that nips you in just below the bust will help to define your waist. Only don’t pass yourself off as a German beer waitress!

  • Maxi Halter

Anything with a halter neck is ideal for accentuating a narrow shoulder or showing off toned shoulders, which is another summer classic. It’s amazing how the clean shoulder line contrasts with the fullness of the maxi length. This style and length can be worn by any height if you don’t mind showing off your arms and shoulders.
