H&M Collaborates with Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi just dropped the bomb. The Indian couturier collaborating with Swedish-giant H&M and creating a collection inspired by travel. If this is not something to be excited about, then what is! Each one of us have always longed to own atleast one piece of Sabyasachi’s couture collection in our lives. The man who has styled few hundred brides, came up with his own jewellery line, has flagship stores all over the world, styled best of Bollywood stars for red carpets, collaborated with Pottery Barn on home line, collaborated with other international fashion houses like Christian Louboutin, Karl Lagerfeld is now ready to launch its most exciting project – The Sabyasachi plus H&M.

H&M has begun its collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld back in 2004 and has worked with other big names like Stella Mccartney, Isabel Marant, Balmain, Marni to name a few. He has picked up designers from runways of Europe’s Fashion week. H&M started its retail in India in 2015 and by now has 46 stores across the country. It’s the first time an Indian designer is lending its name to such a global level.

The collaboration is themed Wanderlust and caters to apparels for both men and women and accessories. Think about saris, kaftans, shirts, crop tops and accessories like chains, caps, earrings in Indian prints. As the designer said, “It is very exciting to bring the Indian finesse to ready-to-wear market and to create whimsical and fluid silhouette in the modern sophistication of everyday life.” The collection is inspired by Morocco, Istanbul, Seville and Jodhpur and so will be the blend of modern and traditional silhouettes tilting towards athleisure and glamping styles. Indian prints and textiles will be hand-crafted and given the shape of western-wear and this is going to be the major highlight of the collection. The pricing details are not out yet but it will definitely not be in lacs. It might not bring huge difference in the revenue of the company due to limited stock, but it surely introduces new customers to the brand.

With increasing number of International brands entering India, brands are localising their collection by collaborating with indigenous designers to woo the Indian market. Just like H&M x Sabyasachi collaboration, Uniqlo, a Japanese brand that launched in India on October, 2019 collaborated with Indian designer Rina Singh and came up with its Kurta collection along with tunics, dresses to name a few.

The Sabyasachi x H&M collection labelled “Wanderlust” is set to release on 16th April in stores as well as on Myntra and will also be available globally on hm.com covering 48 markets. Mark your calendar.
