Deepika Padukone + Louis Vuitton

Deepika Padukone + Louis Vuitton

Deepika Padukone turned yet another stone and creates history as she becomes the first ever Bollywood celebrity to star in the Louis Vuitton’s global campaign. She will be accompanied by other global faces from all across the world for the pre-fall 2020 campaign. The actress confirmed the news by posting it on Instagram saying that she is excited to join the Louis Vuitton family.

Deepika was recently awarded for her contributions towards mental health awareness at World Economic Forum. She has been a face of many brands including L’Oréal Paris, Tanishq, Oppo, Lux and her own clothing brand All About You and many more. Deepika recently delivered a commendable performance in her movie ‘Chhapaak’ and has been appreciated by the critics. She is a popular name amongst the Bollywood stars who went international to give their career more heights. Nicholas Ghesquiere, French designer and creative director of the House of Louis Vuitton, screened and choose her to be one of his muses. Campaign will feature 24 American and European celebrities including Alicia Vikander, Jennifer Connelly, Yaya, Sophie Turner, Chloe Grace Moretz, Lea Seydoux to name a few.

What is the collection about?

Nicholas has a deep affection for sci-fi and fantasy and has well justified it.The pre-fall collection is called ‘wearable library’ as each outfit has its own story based on the different movies and books. The collection derives its inspiration and is a tribute to classic horror themed books and movies of 1970s and 80s. Deepika is seen wearing an oversized grey coat, checkered dress and pair of quilted turquoise boots and a mini belt bag from the brand, posing against Michelle Gagnon’s thriller ‘Don’t Turn Around’. Sequinned cocktail dresses and camisoles, T-shirts with exorcist print, futuristic moon boots, leather skirts are some of the highlights of the collection. Sequinned camisole paired with a sequinned camisole strongly speaks about the Ghesquiere’s leaning towards anachronism. No wonder he is the master of anachronism as his spring/summer 2018 collection took references from the past royal costumes of 18th century and transformed into the typical Louis Vuitton style. But this time The Exorcist has taken the front seat and has been a central theme throughout. In an interview with Vogue, an American magazine, Ghesquiere mentioned it all started when The Exorcist writer gave them the rights to use the book cover for the collection and that’s when he decided to incorporate fiction in an outfit. Instead of using it directly, he altered the idea to use fiction as illustration and portrayed celebrities as different characters. The collection look-book swings to old school book covers in vibrant colors and different fonts altogether.

Deepika, on collaborating with the brand, said in an interview that she feels proud on being hand-picked as a face for change. To broaden her view, Deepika further added that fashion has changed in the past few years and has become even more diverse. Though India’s involvement in the global fashion should have happened long ago but this remarkable gesture by Louis Vuitton is praiseworthy and deserves a round of applause.

More power to you Deepika. Be Unstoppable!
