The Italian Design Day was celebrated on 24th March 2022 at the premises of the Italian Embassy at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi India. Mr. Vincenzo de Luca, the Ambassador of Italy to India invited the directors of JD Institute Of Fashion Technology to this prestigious event. The evening was graced by the presence of industry professionals such as Ms. Sunita Kohli, Ms. Kohellika Kohli, Ms. Seetu Kohli, Ms. Vaishali Shadangule, etc. Mr. Vincenzo de Luca charmed the guests with his warm hospitality. The mood of the evening was set by the welcome Aperitif and Live music, which served as a beautiful backdrop for the conversations, interactions, and laughter as the guests interacted with each other. This was followed by the audiovisual presentation called “A Glimpse of Italian Design in India: Salone Internazionale del Mobile Milan 2022. Salone del Mobile or the Milan Furniture Fair is an international platform where top trends and products in furniture and design are presented annually.
The theme for this year was “a contemporary and sustainable approach to interior design”. The presentation highlighted the craftsmanship, focus on details, and the design approach followed by Italian interior designers towards creating designs that are timeless, sustainable, and accepted throughout the world. Mr. Vincenzo de Luca also spoke about the synergies between Italian and Indian designs. This was followed by a panel discussion where some eminent figures from the architecture industry participated as panelists. Some of the names from the panel include Ms. Kohelika Kohli, CEO and Creative Director .K2India; Mrs. Parushni Aggarwal, Founder, and Creative Director, Studio Creo; Arch. Seetu Kohli, Founder, and Creative Director, Seetu Kohli Design; Mr. Harpreet Singh, Co-Founder, Aux.Home; and Mrs. Vaishali Shadangule, Founder, Vaishali S.
Keeping with the theme of the evening, the panel discussion revolved around sustainable development and practices in interior design. A very interesting viewpoint given by Ms. Kohelika Kohli was thought if Academic Coordinator JD Institute Interior importing Italian furniture was a sustainable thing to do? She later shed some light on the question wherein she emphasized that Italian furniture is timeless, of great craftsmanship quality, and is therefore sustainable to be used anywhere in the world. They further discussed the importance of craftsmanship in the domain of furniture design. This was followed by the discussion of similarities between Italy and India when it comes to their rich heritage of crafts. The discussion highlighted another synergy between the two nations with the fact that both Italian and Indian designers need to make sure that the tradition remains intact while the process of contemporization.
The evening that celebrated the elegance of Italian and Indian design was brimmed to be full of insightful discussions and light-hearted conversations.
