Hello Folks and welcome to this fresh article on making your living room a cozy little place to hang out that too on a budget. Growing up at my parent’s house in a joint family I always saw so many things unarranged and just kept out for no reason at all (believe me it happens in a joint family) that when I finally moved out of the place for my masters I decided that even if I have a small place it doesn’t matter what matters is ill keep it organized, neat, cozy and welcoming. Growing up I always dreamt of having such a living room and when I finally got the liberty to do so, I got wondering what should I do with my living room? how do I make it stand out? what should I do that it looks like the coziest place to hang out? Plus I was doing my master’s hence was on a pretty tight budget so to even think about it I asked my friend who was a student at JD Institute at that time he told me to first create a budget and then decide what all should I get, after that he shared me with various tips which I happen to use till date, today I’ll be sharing my cheat sheet with you all through which you guys can also make your place much more comforting than it already is, so let’s dive into it –
1. Warm colors – Applying warm colors like red always adds a bit of aesthetic to the room, it however should be as fine and shiny as a red wine so that it doesn’t soak out the light from your room. Cool colors always look a bit tacky indoors and if not redone could prefer grey, which is an accent color and can match with both flooring and furniture easily.
2. Furniture – Every place big/small needs a center of attention and what better than furniture to do it for you, place a comfortable sofa if you feel like it, or for a tighter budget one can even try out old wooden chairs which can be painted and then polished to give them a vintage feel.
3. Soft rug – One never knows the importance of rugs till one buys them, the same happened with me and now I can never even imagine having a place without a soft rug. A soft rug doesn’t only add to the look of the room but if placed properly and matched with the color of the furniture it can add appeal to the furniture like never before.
4. Long curtains – Fresh new long curtains are a must, people often change their sofa sets and other furniture but not their curtains, but that’s not how it’s supposed to be. Long curtains not only add to the appeal of the room and add a vibrant feel to it but they also make the ceiling look bigger and the room cozier, thus one should always invest in good curtains.
5. Lighting – Now what’s the use of bringing new furniture, rug, curtains, and applying new colors to the walls if the lighting going to be the same? Have you ever wondered why the dining tables or the cars look prettier inside the showroom but not when you buy them or on the road? where does all the shine fade away? No, it doesn’t fade away it is all the magic of lights, need I say more the first and foremost thing on the list should be a good pool of lights as they can instantly change the mood of a person.
6. Flowers/ House plants – A place all of a sudden becomes lively with flowers or some greenery present in it. There are too many options to choose from house plants of different shapes and kinds of leaves to a simple yet elegant cactus. One may choose a bouquet every once in a while, as artificial ones even though are low maintenance but do not go well with the vibe, and can never bring the charm real ones to bring.
7. Pop art on wall/artwork – A house without art is just incomplete, not just does art bring life to the place but it also tells so much about the person to whom the art belongs, it tells about the preference and taste of the person. Art pieces may be hung singularly or maybe multiple on the wall it depends on person to person, I recently happened to redo my whole wall with a pop art background and I have been in love with it since then.
8. Book Shelf – Is a house without some books even a house? I can’t even imagine being around a place with no books because I’m a firm believer in the saying that books are our best friends. A bookshelf defines who the person is, the kinds of books one reads are what one becomes is another famous saying I have always known to be true, hence I guess no matter big or small but a bookshelf is a must.
9. Cute coffee table with cute coasters – Who doesn’t like coffee? I’m yet to meet a person who would say they don’t like coffee. A cute small coffee table can be the center of attraction for your Living room it would bring life to the place a wooden finish vintage coffee table looks appealing but nowadays glass top coffee tables are also in trend hence look for a cute coffee table along with coasters of your favorite tv show characters, because let’s are honest who likes mug stains on such a cute coffee table.
