Prop Designing Workshop; Creation Of Visual Merchandising Masterpieces With Paper

To design is to aspire and making that design appealing to the consumer is where the field of visual merchandising comes into play. Giving our students exposure to the domain of prop designing for visual merchandising, JD Institute Of Fashion Technology organized a workshop on prop designing in collaboration with Design One, a giant in the field. On 23rd December 2021, the students from our Fashion Design and Fashion Technology batch got the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the domain with some interactive presentations and hands-on activities.

The workshop organized by us saw the students fully immerse in the magic of prop designing. Under the guidance of the experts, they created props that were crafted out of paper. This interactive workshop started with a presentation that brought the audience face to face with the industry insights. This was followed by the activity where the students were asked to fashion a prop for a window display. Guided by Ms. Ankita Gulati, the Co-founder of Design One, and Komal Ved, Creative Head for Design One, they designed some uber-chic props out of paper. They were also presented with the project portfolio of the brand wherein they showed the students what all brand outlets they have catered to. Their wide range of props designed for brands across the industry served as an inspiration for these budding designers.

Mr. Dhruv Kapoor the founder of Design One is also the faculty of Visual Merchandising at JD Institute Of Fashion Technology. An alumnus of NIFT, Bhopal, and UAL, his career highlights his contribution to the field of visual merchandising. His expertise in the field is well evident in his portfolio. His 13+ years of experience in the domain has been acknowledged by brands like Cantabil, Home Centre, Ralph Laure, etc. He has worked with an ample number of brands and has lent his design sensibility throughout the industry with eco-friendly props and visual merchandising window displays.

As the workshop came to an end, the Design One team selected the best four presentations from the students’ activity. They declared that the students with the best presentation will get a golden opportunity to work alongside Design One on some of their remote projects. By the end of this paid engagement, the student will be rewarded with a letter of appreciation and recommendation from the brand itself. Needless to say, this announcement gave our students the zeal to present their best work and made this interactive workshop a soaring success.
