Vastu Shastra for Your Kitchen

Vastu Shastra, which literally translates to “architecture theory,” sets out the concepts of design, planning, proportions, ground planning, room configuration, and spatial geometry for a home or any built-up structure; it may incorporate traditional Hindu (and even Buddhist) religious beliefs. Vastu theories include suggestions and principles for creating a living environment that is in harmony with nature, rather than being limited to linear structure diagrams and including geometric shapes, symmetry, and directional alignments. Vastu Shastra’s ideas and principles are templates for the organization of space and shape within a room or a group of rooms or structures, based on their roles in relation to one another, as well as their meaning and use. Although Vastu Shastra offers guidance and instructions for the design of all rooms in a house, including the bedroom, kitchen, dining room, playroom, home office, prayer room, and outdoor spaces, its science has also been extended to the development of villages, townships, parks, highways, waterworks, and other large public spaces. Each home or living room has its own energy, and a house must radiate the right kind of energy to be harmonious and peaceful. The vitality of the household, at the end of the day, will have an effect on the emotional health of each living member.

Vastu Shastra architecture is based on the idea of a structure and its construction. A home’s exterior form, or shell, may assist in channelling positive energies and preventing adverse outcomes.

  • Plots that are symmetrical or right-angled in shape, such as rectangles

or square, function well as Vastu values conductors. There is Financial development which is aided by plot shapes, offering wealth and the house is filled with joy.

  • Irregular or curved shaped structures (oval, circular, or semi-circular) are not auspicious, according to ancient science, since they limit an individual’s development and cause a number of health issues, losses, and a general lack of satisfaction in the household.

Are you considering a kitchen renovation?

You’ll like to make it Vastu-compliant! The kitchen, after all, is associated with the element of fire. A fine balance of energies, according to Vastu Shastra principles, will ensure that positivity, good health, and happiness reign in your home.

Wondering where to start? Don’t fret, JD Institute Of Fashion Technology has got your back with simple and effective Vastu Shastra tips that you can follow to make your kitchen healthy:

The Direction of the Kitchen

  • It’s better to put your kitchen in the southeast, for this is where Agni, or the Lord of Flames, rules. If it isn’t feasible, the northwest will suffice. The sun and Mars are aligned in the south-eastern sky, and the resulting energy destroys germs and promotes good health.
  • Avoid placing the kitchen in the north, southwest, or northeast, as this will cause marital strife and rifts in the family.
  • Is your kitchen, on the other side, facing north or northeast (for some inexplicable reason)? Don’t be concerned! You will mitigate this to some extent by orienting the stove to the southeast and making sure the northeast corner is clutter-free. Extend the northeast corner to make space for a pooja room or a wash area if the architecture allows. And if you have a window towards the northeast direction, make sure it is open at all times.
  • Place the kitchen in a northwest direction for a west or north-facing home, so you can cook when looking north. If your home faces east or south, the safest spot for the kitchen is on the southeast side.

Vastu Shastra Tips for Sink and Stove

  • Cooking must always be done with one’s back to the east. As a result, cooking appliances such as microwave ovens and gas stoves must be placed in this direction.
  • Place the kitchen sink in the direction of the north or northeast. It should not be placed in the same or parallel direction as the cooking platform. Fire and water, according to Vastu Shastra, are diametrically opposed and can have negative effects if both elements are present.
  • Place a bone china vase between the stove and the sink as a solution if they are close enough.

Vastu Colours for Kitchen

  • In the kitchen, colours like yellow, orange, pink, and brown can be used instead of black.
  • Make sure the windows face east or north for optimum natural light.
