Understanding Interior Design With The Lens Of Entrepreneurship

“Designers are the pioneers of problem-solving”

As has been aptly put by one of our speakers, the true motto of innovation and creation lies in the greater good rather than the aesthetics: user-centric designs are what budding designers should aim for.

When we are creating a space, are we as designers just looking at the beautification of the property or we are equally invested in the problem-solving aspect of design? Delving deep into the practical association of interior design, the webinar organised on 21st March focused on the very ethos of space design.

JD Institute Of Fashion Technology organised a webinar on 21st February on the topic of “Making The World A Better SPACE”. Our eminent speakers, Ms. Shipra Khanna (Academic Coordinator, Interior Design) and Ms. Rashmi Jha (Interior Design Faculty) gave our students an insight into the domain of Interior design with a focus on designing practical spaces. Hosted by Ms. Bhawana Khattar, Corporate Co-Head, the session witnessed active participation from the students.

The data-driven webinar brought to the forefront data and facts that are often overseen in terms of design and creativity. This session brought the perfect intervention that the new-age designers need. With discussion around the upcoming trends in interior design, the speakers talked about the emergence of tech, sustainability, and humane aspects in design. What was previously done through archaic processes has been now impregnated with the dominance of tech. The use of AR, VR, and AI is changing the landscape of interior design as we knew it. Further adding to this discussion, Ms, Jha talked about the introduction of varied spaces in the domain. Her insight on the surfacing of co-working spaces and hybrid home spaces has given our students a much-needed peek into the industry.

Another highlight of the session was the brief interaction the audience had with our alumni Shivangi Dahiya. The founder of Rever Casa, an interior design firm. She imparted her knowledge of entrepreneurship with the audience where she talked about the design process, her brand ethos with a focus on brand building and brand promotion. Her brief yet impactful session gave the students an insight into entrepreneurship and the groundwork that goes behind the brand building.

Our speakers Ms. Shipra Khanna and Ms. Rashmi Jha shifted our perspective towards interior design with a discussion around the myriad opportunities and start-ups that are defining the course of the industry with a fresh outlook into the domain. They talked about interior design firms such as Homelane, Flip Spaces, Livspace, etc., and how these entities are changing the way we look at space designing.

As the session came to the finale, the course of the discussion shifted towards the JD curriculum and how the meticulously planned courses help our students find the best opportunities for them. Ms. Khanna further talked about the inclusion of various software in our curriculum like 3DS MAX, Auto CAD, V-Ray, etc. She even informed the audience about the numerous accreditations from the Indian government that our esteemed institute has received. While pulling the curtain for this informative webinar, the speakers announced the GAT dates and finally pared with a heartfelt message.
