A Valuable Experience: Industrial Visit to Harpar Textiles for Fashion Design Students

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Industrial visits are an essential component of the education system as they provide students with practical knowledge that they can apply to their future careers. On the 16th of February, the JD Institute of Fashion Technology organized an industrial visit to Harpar Textiles in Okhla, New Delhi for their Fashion Design students. The objective of the visit was to provide students with a deeper understanding of the various types of fabrics and materials that they will be handling in their day-to-day work.

Harpar Textiles: A Leader in the Textile Industry

Harpar Textiles, established in 1947 by the founder Late Harbans Singh Pahwa, is a reputed manufacturer and supplier of cotton, linen, viscose, polyester, and sustainable fabrics in the country. With over half a century of experience in this field, the company is a leader in the textile industry in the domestic and international markets.

A Comprehensive Tour

The visit provided students with a comprehensive tour of Harpar Textiles’ various textile sections, including Cotton, Linen, Viscose, Polyester, and Sustainable Fabric. Each section showcased various types of fabrics with unique properties and end-uses in the fashion and textile industry.

Fabric Knowledge and Properties

The Cotton section showcased various types of voile, sheeting, twill, drill, cambric, canvas, duck, cotton satin, poplin, cotton crepe, flannel, dobby, cotton velvet corduroys, and many novelty cotton constructions. The Linen section exhibited 100% linen, cotton linen, viscose linen, yarn-dyed linen, gauze linen, and linen strips. The Viscose section showcased georgette, crepe, chiffon, moss, moss crepe, rayon twill, plain and printed fabrics. The Polyester section displayed Texo, Polysatin, taffeta, georgette, crepe, chiffon, swed, and dupio fabrics. The Sustainable Fabric section showcased organic, Oeko-Tex, BCI, recycled (GRS), FSC, fair trade, and BAM fabrics.

A Highly Informative Visit

The students found the visit to be highly informative and interesting. They exhibited curiosity and were very inquisitive and proactive during the visit. Such visits are a must for students as they provide a real-world perspective of how and where particular materials are suitable to use.

In conclusion, the industrial visit to Harpar Textiles provided the Fashion Design students with a unique learning opportunity that they will carry with them throughout their careers.
