Webinar On Design Process; A Peek Into The Practical Facet Of Product Development

As we promise a curriculum that integrates the best of industry knowledge and classroom training, our recent webinar upholds that very promise. Our webinar with Ms. Cherry Sharma had our students take a deep dive into the very core of design ethics. They learned about the lesser-known facets of design and gained an insight into the design process. The session was hosted by Mr. Ankur Gulati, HOD Fashion Department, and was regulated by Ms. Ruchi Madan, Corporate Manager. Our notable speaker presented the students with a series of photographs that dealt with the design process, in a manner that transcended the boundaries of a common teaching-learning method. This was followed by an interactive discussion that because of the active participation from the students became an instant success.

On 15th January 2022 JD Institute Of Fashion Technology organized a webinar with Ms. Cherry Sharma on the topic of “Design Process”. Students from all our campuses participated and the webinar witnessed a strength of more than 100. Our speaker, a notable figure in the creative industry talked about the stages of product development. She imparted the knowledge by drawing examples and instances from her own career that helped our students understand the real-life implications of every step of the design. This webinar was solely focused on the groundwork that goes behind the development of a product. From the development of mood boards, ideation boards, technical sketches to the tech packs, our students got an insight into the commercial side of the design industry. Ms. Sharma explained the process of ground research, mood boards, and texture boards by quoting instances from her own learning curve. Her stress on the aspects of “taking responsibility”, “having an open mind”, and “learning” churned the creative curiosity of the Jediiians.

Making this session a success, our speaker presented her designs from her projects with Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, Amit Agarwal, etc. Being a Fashion Graduate with 10 years of experience in the fashion industry, she has worked with labels like Bodice, Suketdhir, Cue Apparels, Satya Paul, and Amit Aggarwal. Ms. Cherry Sharma is the Co-Founder of ‘Blancstreet India’ which is a design start-up involved in providing custom wall arts and graffiti for renowned brands, businesses, and individuals. Their graffiti and murals for several interior projects have made them the trailblazer in the domain.

The webinar was concluded with an interactive session between the students and the speaker. Jediiians’ brush with the practical world of design gave them the direction for portfolio building and networking. The heart-to-heart discussion of the speaker with our attending faculties was a major highlight of this session. Curtains were finally pulled with a heartwarming message from the speaker to the Jediiians and the webinar was concluded with a screen capture of the virtual feed.
