Live Fashion Show Experience for Students at RampAsia, National Crafts Museum

The runway may be what the audience sees, but the real show begins behind it. It is Backstage, where movement, timing, coordination, urgency, and precision come together and where every second matters and every detail shapes the final presentation.

Recently our Jediiians stepped into this high-intensity environment as backstage volunteers at the RampAsia Fashion Show, held at the National Crafts Museum.

The event was curated by RampAsia in collaboration with The Ramp, featuring designer Pankaj S under the label Pankaj S Heritage, known for blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fashion narratives.

Inside the Backstage Environment

Students were directly involved in backstage operations, working closely with designers, stylists, and production teams to ensure smooth execution of the show.

Their responsibilities included:

  • Assisting models with outfit changes and styling coordination
  • Organising garments, accessories, and show sequences
  • Managing timing and flow of each segment
  • Supporting last-minute adjustments and requirements

This gave them a clear understanding of how fashion shows are structured in real time.

Learning in a High-Pressure Setup

Backstage environments demand quick thinking and strong coordination. Students experienced how small delays or miscommunication can impact the entire show flow.

They observed:

  • The importance of time management and discipline
  • Real-time problem-solving under pressure
  • Constant communication between teams
  • The need for accuracy in execution

This helped them understand that fashion events are as much about operations as they are about creativity.

Observing Designer Vision in Motion

Working closely around the showcase of designer Pankaj S, students were able to see how a designer’s vision is translated from concept to runway. They gained insight into:

  • How collections are presented as cohesive narratives
  • The role of craftsmanship in modern fashion storytelling
  • The balance between tradition and contemporary design expression

This added a creative layer to their operational learning.

Insights Gained by Students

By the end of the experience, students had a clearer understanding of what it takes to execute a professional fashion show. They gained:

  • Hands-on exposure to backstage fashion operations
  • Improved coordination and communication skills
  • Understanding of workflow management in live events
  • Confidence in handling high-pressure environments
  • Real-time insight into industry-level execution standards

This experience reinforced that a fashion show is not just designed, it is carefully managed, step by step, behind the scenes.

Save This Thought

The runway is seen in seconds, but it takes hours of coordination to make it seamless.
